Frag Last

The Silva Navigation School was started 18 years ago by Pete Hawkins to coincide with the publication of his first book “Map and Compass; the art of navigation”.

Since then it has gone from strength to strength and over the years, Pete has worked closely with a number of fellow instructors including Frag Last.

After an interesting 2020, 2021 is seeing a few small changes, as Pete takes more of a backseat and Frag takes over the day-to-day running and tutoring of The Silva Navigation School.

Pete’s not disappearing entirely but in late 2020 became the chair of the National Navigation Award Scheme which runs the Navigator Award that the Silva Navigation School runs.

All the courses we offer have been specially designed so you get lots of hands-on practice and where appropriate some theory sessions to back it all up. We follow the syllabus of the NNAS Navigator Award Scheme and operate all year round.

Our two-day courses are NNAS-accredited and certificated courses and as from late 2020, all levels are accredited by the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework. This has exciting implications if you’re seeking to build on your educational and employment opportunities.  Call us to find out more.

As well as being able to book on a course you can also buy compass or signed copies of Pete’s books at the Navigation School shop.

We look forward to meeting you on a course.
